Windows says the file is dangerous? That's normal.
On first launch, Windows may show “Windows protected your PC”. It is not a virus: BatteryOnPC is a recent app, not yet code-signed, and Microsoft's SmartScreen filter distrusts any program it does not know by default. It judges by reputation, not by the file's content: an app that few people have downloaded yet is treated as a stranger.
To install it anyway, two clicks:
- 1Click “More info”, the small link under the message.
- 2Click “Run anyway”. The install starts.
Your browser may also ask you to confirm before keeping the file (“Keep”). Same cause, same answer.
The free trial: 3 days to check your hardware
That is what the trial is for: seeing whether BatteryOnPC reads your devices before you buy. Everything is unlocked, with no account and no card.
- Controller: detected automatically. Its level shows in the taskbar as soon as the app starts (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch).
- Mouse, keyboard, headset: right-click the icon, choose “Add a device (beta)”, then pick the device in the list. If it gets its own icon with a percentage, it is compatible.
- A “?” instead of a number means the device is detected but does not report its battery. Leave anonymous diagnostics on (they only send the device's technical sheet, never personal data) or write to us with the model: that is how compatibility grows with every update.
- After 3 days, BatteryOnPC stops watching your batteries and shows a screen to buy the licence, or to sign in if you already have. Nothing is charged automatically: no subscription, no card on file.
